The book is illustrated by Marvel Comic illustrator Del Barras, which added to my enjoyment. Written for a young adult audience, I found myself drawn in as an adult. Her story includes seeking a solution for the mysterious devastation of many crops of wine grapes, as well as a strong emphasis on love, and the power of family to overcome evil. Having grown up with a scientist father, Mac has a strong passion to see the world healed. Mixing fantasy and technology, author Darielle Mac also throws in some ecology. But she is imbued with powers of healing and musical gifts which help her along the way, a magical scooter is her ride, and a robot becomes her friend. To say what would be to give too much away. Strong-willed and fearless, she sets off on an adventure in search of something. The story is driven forward on great character development and an exciting plot, without the trappings of a scantily clad girl or a gun-hauling vigilante.Īmber’s strength is quiet and all encompassing, and she accomplishes her goals without the use of violence. She’s emotionally strong, pretty, and very clever, but she isn’t portrayed as a vixen. Amber is allowed to be a girl, making choices and growing up, before she has a romantic relationship. What’s refreshing about this book is the author didn’t over-sexualize her teen character. When her father tells her that she has to marry a boy she isn’t in love with, a streak of rebellion takes over, which sets Amber off on a series of adventures. Family is a strong theme in this book, and Amber has a good relationship with her father, and misses her mother.

Amber plays the violin and has the gift of a healing touch. She lives on the magical isle of Tir na Nor, where music and education are held in high regard. Skooter Girl is the “origin” story of Amber, a new super hero in this wonderful graphic novel that I just couldn’t put down! It’s refreshing in so many ways.Īmber has just turned 16, which makes her an adult in her culture. New Fantasy-Adventure Comic Book Hero Loves Family, Fights With Her Heart!
